How to set up a leveling system with XP and role rewards on Discord

Turn on XP for chatting and voice, XP boosts, level-up messages, rank cards and automatic role rewards in your Discord server with Elarix, a free leveling bot.

How XP works

Members earn 15 to 25 XP for chatting, at most once a minute, so spam doesn't pay. Each level takes a bit more XP than the last. Leveling starts off when Elarix joins.

XP for voice

Turn on /levels voice and members also earn XP every minute they spend in a voice channel (10 a minute unless you change it). It only counts when someone else is there and they aren't deafened, so nobody can farm XP alone. The AFK channel never counts, and /levels ignore switches off any other voice channel. The leaderboard shows each member's voice time.

XP boosts

Give some roles or channels more (or less) XP: /levels boost role with 1.5 for server boosters, or /levels boost channel with 2 for an events channel and 0.5 for memes. A boost on a category covers every channel in it. If a member has several boosted roles, the biggest one counts. /levels boost list shows them all, and setting a boost to 1 removes it.

Set it up

1. Turn it on: /levels toggle → True.
2. Choose where level-ups are announced: /levels announce (the channel they chatted in, a set channel, DMs, or off).
3. Add role rewards: /levels reward add with a level and a role. Repeat for each reward.
4. Optional: stop XP in bot or spam channels with /levels ignore, or run a double-XP weekend with /levels multiplier 2.

Commands for members

/rank shows a rank card with your level, XP and position. /leaderboard shows the top 10. Members can style their own card with /rankcard color and /rankcard background.

Fixing someone's level

/levels set puts a member on any level (and gives the rewards they've earned). /levels reset sets them back to zero.
